"Malé"

100 x 100 cm
Acrylics, Maledives beach sand and sea shells on canvas
Malé is painted with sand and shells from the Maldives. Hence the name Malé, referring to the capital of the Maldives. From up close the painting looks abstract with beach feeling to it. Rough sand, tiny shells, grain texture and sandpaper feel. But when looking at it further it becomes an ever so elegant painting with a soft and grounding feel to it. The contrast of the painting up close compared to the painting from a distance makes it mesmerizing..

The painting is a one-of-a-kind, hand painted stripes painting by Montana Engels.
Special about the technique is that Montana invented this way of painting and that when looking at it up close it looks abstract while the further you move away from the painting, the MORE detailed it gets.
